It's not the extensive, analytical essays and papers you would want to read after Arabic-Islamic Cities: Building and Planning Principles.

It is in some cases, very strange that still in the 90's there was always a sort of descriptive orientalist approach to Arab cities. I mean to open this volume with an essay on Gérard de Nerval's travels to Morocco and him interpreting Hijab/Veil in a manner that according to one of the authors was unfamiliar among his peers, is definitely not what I expected.

The problem with judging a book by its cover in this case is inverted: I had high hopes that were slowly dismantled as I proceeded.

I wish I was able to write a better review ... But I should have read the summaries first probably!
