As a fan of the Sweet Valley High and even Sweet Valley Twins series, I had to check this book out. It was fun to catch up on the Wakefield twins all these years later. I have to say the writing was just plain awful. I think there was a reason why Francine Pascal only "created" the series and didn't write the books. The writing was redundant, silly and filled with words it seemed she got out of a thesaurus to impress us. I really cringed at some parts. But I did feel sentimental about the characters - I still love Elizabeth and think Jessica is an idoit - and their friends, and that made helped me get through it.

I'll preface this review by saying the writing is atrocious and the switch from past to present time was annoying. 

Other than that? I loved it... it was like catching up with old friends. A high school reunion of sorts. I'm surprised by how many of the not-so-main characters I remember from the series, since it's been years since I read any of the books. Jessica still drove me nuts. Elizabeth was still my favorite (and the twin I still most closely identify with). I still find Todd boring (and, in light of recent events, an asshole) and Bruce intriguing. 

If you were a fan of the books growing up, read this book. Enjoy it for the sentimental reasons if not the writing. I know I did.

I received this book for free through Goodreads Giveaway. And yes, it took me almost 4 years to get around to reading this. First, when I won the book it took so long to receive it that a lot of my friends were already reviewing it - and the reviews weren't good! When it finally came, I was in the middle of reading a series so it got put on a shelf...and we can see where that can be catastrophic!

Having not won a Goodreads Giveaway since then, I've sought this book out so I can review it and stop having it be a monkey on my back. Already? Not the best start to reading a book.

Also, I was not a huge Sweet Valley fan. I read the Sweet Valley Twins series but not Sweet Valley High or SVU. I did watch a little bit of the TV show but I never got into that either. One of the big complaints I would read about was character continuity - I didn't have to worry about that though having missed the original series...so on with the book!

Well...it was well written in the sense that I didn't lose who was who or have to read all the past books to understand what was going on. But I've read this before. Countless times. I think it was called Something Borrowed and the sequel Something Blue. I didn't like it then. I don't like it now. Jessica, who was supposed to have matured, spoke like a Valley girl, with a million "like oh my God!" type of phrases and the word "like" entered into like every other like word. Annoying. The phrase "show don't tell" was used a little too much, especially when describing the twins. We get it. They're pretty. Because blonds are pretty and brunettes are just cute in Sweet Valley world. And the best part is at the end of the book (view spoiler)[ you either had a happy ending or you ended up dead. (hide spoiler)] I wish I was kidding, but Sweet Valley would have it no other way.

If this continues on into a series of "adult" SV, I think I'm going to skip it. Fans of the original series? You will probably love this. Let me know if you'd like my copy!
