I read this children's book for the first time yesterday. Despite the fact that I am not part of the age group this book is directed at, I still enjoyed reading it to a toddler during a car ride. The illustrations are really nice and reading the story made me nostalgic of the time when I used to read picture books as a little kid. I think the one weakness to this book is the fact that I found it didn't have a very clear moral or didactic message. Morals and didactic messages, in my opinion, are important for every story, especially for younger children, so I think it could have been clearer.
I really liked the illustrator's style, and I personally love illustrations in general. I think pictures are a good way to tell a story and I think that more YA and adult books should have them too. If you really think about it, the concept of having illustrations in a YA or adult book isn't new. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, a YA book, for example, was first published with illustrations. Charles Dickens's adult books were also printed with illustrations.
