I only read this series because I wanted to find out what happened after watching episodes of the TV adaptation. I'm not your average fantasy novel reader -- love sci-fi tv -- but not really a fan of reading this kind of fiction. I felt this series was a bit too wordy for me and frankly, was focused entirely too much on Kahlan and Richard to suit me. I mean, you know it going in. But it was a bit too "perfect" and really didn't offer me the depth that I think I was hoping for. I suppose it could just be a genre-related thing I'm not aware of; but in any case...the further along I got, the more I felt I didn't really miss a lot and was glad to be done with it.

I like the concepts and appreciated it on the whole, it just doubt I'd have been as invested as I was in the characters had the TV not greased the skids to start.
