Look, I'm not saying I read Robin Hood because the US is about to be taken over by a horrifying kleptocracy but I'm not *not* saying that, either.

Actually, I've always loved Robin Hood, and while I've watched a bunch of different versions through the years I'd never actually sat down and read the full adventures before. It was totally worth it, not just because they're super charming (they are!) or the last few are genuinely sad (view spoiler)[(was I in denial about Will Scarlet's death? MAYBE) (and for real, who wants to read about the death of a legend, anyway? I mean I knew what was going to happen because history BUT STILL) (hide spoiler)], but also because one thing that seems to get lost in adaptations is that Maid Marian is a total. freaking. boss.

For real, she's halfway through the wedding to Robin when he first gets declared an outlaw and has to retreat to Sherwood, and Prince John tries to marry her off to Sir Guy instead, so she immediately tells her father she's running away. He can either let her go hang out with Robin in Sherwood, in which case she promises she'll remain a virgin until Richard gets back to pardon him so they can get married properly, OR ELSE she's going to run away ANYWAY but totally bang Robin while she's there. Also at one point she fights Robin to a stand-still just to prove she can, and later she takes on Prince John himself (and several guards) when he tries to kidnap her.

TOTAL. BOSS.

Anyway, all incarnations of Robin Hood are delightful, and I super enjoyed this.
