When I was reading these books I had a mole removed for precautionary reasons and I spent a long time thinking about how I was going to die from a treatable version of cancer and the last books I'd ever read would be this beautiful but ponderous meditation on life and destiny and narrative, rich with descriptions of horses (a bullshit animal) and deserts (the bloodred sun over the etc etc etc) but it turns out that I don't have cancer, which is pretty sweet.
