The Broken Kingdoms

Really enjoyed the characters and world building in this second book.  It had a bit more action than the first book, which I enjoyed and kept me engaged.

The MC Oree's compassion and humanity were refreshing to read.

           This was such a let down, with Special MC Oree being only really blind when it’s convenient for the plot (seems like in chapter 17 the author completely forgot Oree is supposed to be blind). Though the setting is nice enough, and the painting with magic neat, everything else about the plot and characters feels just rushed, unrealistic and contrived. Oree feels overpowered with her godling friends in comparison to the threat she faces (which isn’t much of a threat at all as she’s conveniently rescued). I also disliked the relationship between Oree and Shiny, which felt forced and icky. I can honestly only hope the next part will be better

The plot was somewhat apparent from the beginning, but it was still good writing. I would have liked to see more of some characters, and less of others, but I enjoyed the story overall and am enjoying the series.

So basically if you're considering not reading this trilogy even for a second and you're the kind of person who likes kickass females and really well-developed characters and basically everything right about a YA fantasy book, YOU'RE WRONG.

Read it. Trust me.

I liked this book almost as much as the first one! And that's saying something, because usually sequels tend to drag! This one really didn't!

Oree, Shiny, Madding, Lil, and all of the rest of the characters were fantastic aaah I can't say enough about this series

Full review for this will come in due course. But basically I really enjoyed how the main character navigated through the storyline without sight e.g. how she could sense "magic" and use that to create artworks.

I felt so-so about the first book in this series but decided to read this one anyway, and I liked it a fair bit more. The relationships were more interesting, I liked the main character, I felt it more suspenseful at times, and generally I was more invested in the plot and the characters. Some of the magic was kind of neat, and though I found some of the stuff around vision a little fuzzy, I also enjoyed trying to imagine the world as Oree sees it. So a better read for me than the first. I'm dipping into the final installment in hopes that it's as good as or even better than installation number two.

Where the first in this series is a slow boil, this one is non-stop action and constantly-ratcheting-up tension. More twists and turns than I ever expected. A great and compelling read.

Wow, this series keeps getting better. I love the protagonist, Oree. The view through her eyes, blind to the light of the world, was beautiful. The new godlings we meet in this volume were all pretty interesting. I think the story moved along a bit faster and maybe better than the first story, but in general, I just want to roll around in this universe for a long time to come.
