This book starts somewhere right after the events of the first book. Allison is persistent to find Kanin by the blood bond they share. After some while, she links up with Jackal, her blood brother and Kanin's other creation. Lets just say, they don't exactly get along. Jackal is basically your stereotypical strong, leader, asshole type vampire. He ruled Chicago, the post-apocalyptic version anyways. This book opens with Allison fierce and cold-hearted, basically just killing anything that gets in her way, and I frankly LOVE her like that. It's so refreshing from the all-too popular innocent and weak protagonists that we get in books nowadays. It's pretty cool to go back to the original setting in The Immortal Rules, FYI the first book, where we got introduced to Allison and her band of misfits. The town is exactly as she remembered except for one thing, rabids are roaming the city more than ever and somethings up with the vamps. Also the fact that Kanin is being tortured and kept in captivity by Sarren, a psychotic and crazy vampire who has the weirdest obsession with birds. Yep. Crazy. Tweet Tweet.

Of course we meet back up with Zeke, who now fully accepts Allison for what she is, much to her relief. I LOVED THE FACT THAT THE ROMANCE WAS EVEN LESS THAN THE FIRST BOOK!! It's like Kagawa had heard my prayers. It was still evident but definitely not focused on at all! Of course with Zeke there he is re-introduced to Jackal and wants revenge for what happened to his people and most importantly, Jeb. Jackal being Jackal doesn't really give 2 shits which is pretty funny. I do love Jackal, as much as he is infuriating and an asshole, it's hard not to like him. Lets just give an example shall we: 

“We’re both still here.”
He drew in a slow breath. “Allie…”
“Oh, don’t mind me,” came an extremely sarcastic voice near the wall. “You two go ahead and make out—I’ll just sit here and bleed quietly.” 

And that's just one of his lines that cracks me up. Jackal is a pretty complex character beneath all that humour. He is not good nor bad, he does wish Allison accept herself fully and believes that humanities purpose was to be ruled by them, vampires. 

Overall, this sequel was amazing and deserves all the praise it has gotten! The ending was a huge shock considering what happens and leaves us on a cliffhanger. Sarren definitely has some hell to pay and Allison is going to come collecting very soon with Kanin and Jackal by her side. Till next time, in the last and final book of the series, The Forever Song.

Allie: I'm incredibly badass and you should give this book a 5 stars just because of my badass-ness.

Jackal: I'm a witty, charming (with the right people and for the right reasons) former Vampire Prince who's possibly a little psychotic and intent on taking over the world. It's all part of the charm. 

Kanin: As I am not your mentor, I cannot tell you what to do. However, I strongly urge you to read this amazing book.

Zeke: ......I'm just here for Allie.

PLEASE JUST READ IT ALREADY.

 Now, I don't remember much from the first book. I remember being disappointed because Julie Kagawa books should be awesome as hell. And I just remember feeling like, "Meh.. The Iron Fae series is waaay better. *sigh*" <-- That was me.

And my view changed for the better! I was in love with the second book! This book picked up a few weeks after Allison left Eden and went to pursue her creator, Kanin. 

Perhaps what didn't made me love the first book was the characters. I never really connected with Allie in the first book. In this book, I loved the characters!!! Allie was still serious but Jackal was there to brighten things up. Even though he was (kinda) the bad guy; I cannot deny that he has quite the charming personality haha. He reminded me so much of Puck from the Iron Fae *tears* Now moving on to Ezekiel Crosse, who was a swoon-worthy character. I nicknamed him the PK and it sticks :P (PK = the pastor's kid; Zeke is one and that's what people in my class call them) Zeke is the love interest in this book and I love him very dearly. Even though he knew Allie was a bloodsucker, he still loved her and pursued her :3

The adventure was really interesting and kept me engaged throughout the whole book. There was no dull point and I was never bored. I just kept flipping the pages and I finished the book in two days (girl, I gotta sleep). The romance kept me squealing (in the dark haha) and smiling goofily and ah! I cannot get enough of the trio (Allie + Jackal + Zeke).

All in all, I have nothing bad to tell of this book. 'Cause it is just that perfect haha :) I really enjoyed the book. AND OMFG.. THE ENDING KILLED ME.. Like what is gonna happen to them next? I have my own speculations but we'll have to wait til next year.

I actually liked this one better than the first. Allie felt much more developed as a character, and honestly, I found her a little annoying in the first book. But she really came into her own, and her motivations and conflicts felt more solid and realistic. There was sometimes too much repetition in some of the wording/descriptions but the writing was tighter on a whole. And I liked that Kanin got more "screen time",but I would have liked a little more impact from his back story. It seemed to be glossed over too much. Jackal was delightfully morally ambiguous, and Zeke, while his relationship with Allie seemed a little forced, also grew as a character. I liked the new plague that they had to deal with, it made the plot much more tense. I am looking forward to reading the next one.

The Eternity Cure Last year I read the first book in the Blood of Eden series, The Immortal Rules. I devoured it, raved about it, and then began waiting rather impatiently for the next book in the series. When The Eternity Cure was offered to me for review, of course I snapped it up! Julie Kagawa has done for the vampire genre what I didn't think possible; she's made it kick-ass again.
 
This new installment opens up with Allie on a quest to rescue her sire. I was instantly transported back into the gritty, vampire-run world that Kagawa had built for me in the last book. The difference this time, of course, was that Allie was on the side of the majority. If you're a vampire in a vampire-run world, there's nothing to be afraid of...right? Wrong. From the beginning Allie is thrown twist after twist until it seems like she just can't catch a break.Now here comes the part where I explain why I didn't quite love this book as much as the first one. The Eternity Cure has a lot going for it. Allison is still a very strong, kick-ass heroine, Kanin is still a heartthrob, and we even get Zeke back (which I can't deny made me giddy). However the problem for me was that I could see everything coming around the bend. I missed being surprised.
 
I completely understood that there was really no more character growth for Allie to go through. The end of the last book showed a girl who had mostly accepted her transformation. Thus, all the inner battles she waged, and the way she pushed others away from her, felt forced to me. I felt like they placed simply to create tension, and it was tough for me to like Allie as much this time around. I also felt like a lot of the action was very linear and there were a lack of really big confrontations. It made this a much slower read for me.
 
Despite it all, I know I'll continue the series. I will follow Allison, Kanin and all the rest into the sunset for as long as they choose to travel. What I really believe is just that The Eternity Cure suffered from middle book syndrome in my eyes. There was a lot that needed to happen, that needed to be explained, to set up what is coming next. This book definitely moves things forward. The only thing I am truly grumpy about is the ending, but I'll leave that for you to discover. Suffice it to say that this wasn't my favorite installment, but I'll still be back for more.
