Premise:
The Foxhole Court follows troubled Neil Joston, who is on the run from his murderous crime lord father, The Butcher. He's never stayed in one place too long until he gets recruited to the Palmetto State University Exy team. Although the team is the worst in the NCAA, it is highly televised and the worst possible place for Neil to settle in. 

Neil isn't the only one who's keeping secrets though, as he gets closer to the team, he may have finally found a family to rely on.

Writing & Plot:
I'm honestly unsure why so many people loved this book. I felt like nothing happens the entire time, and it's Neil's everyday life trying to keep his secret, but he's awful at it. I think where this book fell short, for me, was that it feels extremely unbelievable. First of all, if Neil has been on the run for the past 8+ years, you would think he would know how to hide his identity better. Furthermore, everybody on the Foxes team makes no sense. It's like Nora Sakavic did absolutely no research on the troubled lives that she wrote. 

For example, one of the teammates named Andrew is on anti-psychotic meds, making him high. That doesn't happen, and I feel like no NCAA would allow someone who needs that level of psychiatric help on any sports team. I also believe this representation is extremely harmful to those who actually take anti-psychotic medication. 

Most of this book didn't sit right with me, and I feel like Nora Sakavic portrays the extreme trauma the boys went through in a harmful way. I wish the author did some research before writing this book.

Characters:
Besides Andrew's character, who was abysmal, I think they were fine. I finished this book for the characters, although none of them were developed particularly well. There are so many characters it isn't easy to keep track of them all and their positions. I continuously was forgetting who was who and forgetting the various relationships and beef between all the characters. It's a lot in such a small book that it is challenging to keep them all separate. 

Conclusion:
I feel like everybody, and their mother loves this series, but it isn't for me. From the harmful stereotypes to the lack of believability of the whole team, it was an unenjoyable read. I probably won't continue this series, and I don't recommend it either. There are plenty more sports romances that are way better than this.

Not gonna lie I was hella confused while reading this first book in the series. There were so many names and backstories that got me so confused and intrigued but as I'm approaching the end I got myself hooked with the story.

Great first book for a trilogy.

           i actually didn't think i'd end up liking it because when people told me it was about sports i was like.. eh but ya know it's a lot more than that. it's incredibly interesting and it was hard for me to put down.

i love the characters (neil my son) and storyline (even though it still confuses me) and i can't wait to read the rest of the series. 

also, what the hell was the ending.

This book was not for me. I seriously wanted to like it but it was too unrealistic for me. The writing style also didn't connect with me so I had to struggle through to the end. This isn't a hit against the author or the book, it just wasn't my type of read. And, that's totally okay! We all have books that everyone else loves that we just can't get into. That being said, read it for yourself and make your own informed decision on whether you like it or not.

i hate sport. and this book was all about sport but the characters in this book made it worth the read. 
i think there were a few weak spots in this book, like the fact that after finishing i still have no idea what Exy is lmao and when they first took Neil to the nightclub 😶 i was not impressed with what happened there but i'll let it slide because i love my PTS idiotic babies. 

✨Things to look forward to✨
- a whole team worth of characters which you will immediately fall in love with 
- a bunch of broken boys looking after each other (if that isn't enough to make u read this book then you may as well stop now)
- a sport that is gender neutral and in the book there is three girls!! on the team and i love and respect them 🥰✨
- a coach that "hates" his team but will protect them at all costs and only wants the best for them
- when u finish the book and (hopefully) fall in love, there is a bunch of amazing fan art
- all characters have an important presence and u get to connect with all of them
- its a quick and free (kindle app my friends) read which is perfect since we are all stuck in quarantine 

i know this book has gotten a lot of mixed reviews and i agree with most of the positive and negative comments but to be honest i'm a mess and i don't really understand why i enjoyed this book so much. so this book is extremely character driven (which i personally love) so there doesn't really seem to be a plot and its sometimes kinda unrealistic but its also dark and complicated and i'm determined to understand the characters more. 
but seriously you should give this book a chance. there isn't a romance aspect yet but i have my ship and predictions so i'm going to go ahead and read the next one now. thanks for reading my trashy, confusing, 4am review :)

I love my boys so much. It was so interesting reading this back and understanding it so much more. The first time I was so confused by everyones motivations and why they were the way they are. Makes a lot more sense now.

Here's the thing three years ago I discovered how much I love reading and now it's very rare for me to not find some kind of enjoyment from picking up a book. There have literally only been three books I can say I had some kind of regret over reading all the way through. This might just be the fourth book to add to that list because while there was nothing really wrong I was beyond bored out of my mind. The Foxhole Court is often recommended to people who like the Raven Boys (which I love) and while I can see where the comparison might come from, but I completely disagree. 

The Raven Boys even without including magic succeed imo with giving you friendships, found family, and broken characters you needed to get to know. Here the characters get increasingly unlikable, the plot is thin, the drama is pretty pointless, and even the backstory which had the most promise is lacking. Luckily this isn't a long book because I might've dnfed my first book, and I'm one of those people who needs to complete things otherwise it bugs me to wonder if I missed something. Neil, who is the main protagonist drove me nuts! Everyone in this book tries so hard to be as fucked up as possible but I couldn't help but laugh at how absurd and painfully obvious the writer tries to shove that fact constantly in your face. I felt disconnected the entire time and only in the last couple of chapters did I see any potential for those opinions to change.

The book ends with a big cliffhanger which honestly felt like a cheap ploy to keep you reading, and you know what it kinda worked because I'm morbidly curious where this might go (with very low expectations). I'm just hoping if I do decide to read the next one that maybe this series might eventually change my mind because as of right now it's not convincing me.
