I’m a sucker for the fantasy section and when I picked up this book I did wonder if the pages would live up to the awesome cover and title. They did!

Teagan has the ‘gift’ of psychokinesis which she has to manage alongside a reasonably normal existence. She has friends, a job, and dreams of opening a restaurant.

The problems start when that veneer of normality starts to crack, and she finds herself accused of a murder with only 22 hours (or 24 according to the blurb) to prove her innocence. 

You know the opening of the Deadpool movies? Colour and relentless action with a voiceover; that’s how this book opens. And as I continued to read I felt like I was watching a motion comic, the pace is fast but not hurried, and there is absolutely zero bullshit. 

I loved how right upfront the parameters of the (magic) system of Teagan’s powers were explained; so often a fantasy novel becomes a perpetual explanation of why certain characters can do certain things. This totally avoided that. 

What’s wonderful is that among the relentless action are some lovely themes of friendship, trust and determination - as well as a sub plot for Teagan’s love of food.

I am so glad I took a chance on this and even more pleased that The Frost Files are continued in sequels!

I honestly only started this book because one of the narrators is a favorite. And then I was laughing out loud at certain sections. Highly enjoyable.

I had really high hopes for this book, and while I did like it, I just felt it lacked something. Right from the get go it was jam packed with tons of action and the adrenaline only kept building the entire time. All the bits of Teagan using her powers were really cool, and they're very clear about how it's not magic but science that gave her her abilities which is a break from the typical superpower trope. I think my main issue was the dialogue. Most of the interactions between the group, for me, felt a bit forced. All of these characters come from hard backgrounds, and I almost felt the dialogue tried a little too hard to have that come across. Despite that, there were still enjoyable parts, but I'm not sure if I'll continue with the series if there is one.
