The series was written for a much younger audience than I recalled. A good story overall though, I do love how all of the individual books connect in the end.

I really liked the way this dystopian story was crafted.

Lame and suddenly orphaned, Kira is mysteriously removed from her squalid village to live in the palatial Council Edifice, where she is expected to use her gifts as a weaver to do the bidding of the all-powerful Guardians.

I don't really get how this book relates to The Giver maybe it's explained in one of the other books...
I really enjoyed the story of Kira, Thomas, Matt and Jo. I liked the world-building too.

Loved seeing everything come together but overall didn't love the book.

In this novel that unites characters from "The Giver" and "Gathering Blue," Matty, a young member of a utopian community that values honesty, conceals an emerging healing power that he cannot explain or understand.

Really loved how the story got to expand in this installment.

When she washed up on their shore, no one knew that she came from a society where emotions and colors didn't exist. That she had become a Vessel at age thirteen. That she had carried a Product at age fourteen. That it had been stolen from her body. Claire had a son. But what became of him she never knew. What was his name? Was he even alive? She was supposed to forget him, but that was impossible. Now Claire will stop at nothing to find her child, even if it means making an unimaginable sacrifice.

The Giver Quartet - Son

This was a gorgeous conclusion to a series which just breathes so much impact. 

Son is split into three parts. The first part reads very much like The Handmaid's Tale. In a similar style to the previous three books, we are introduced to a community within a dystopian world. The community was interesting and thought-provoking. It was enjoyable to read, but had quite a soft, quiet experience. 

The second part was my least favourite. At times it felt too long and sometimes unnecessary. It was enjoyable enough, but I honestly found myself wondering what the point was. Apart from the opportunity to build to a climatic third part of the book. 

The final part of the book was what really pulled the entire book, as well as the entire series together. I absolutely adored how Lowry pulls in characters and settings that the reader is familiar with from previous books. I loved the final 'journey/quest' at the end. All in all it was an incredibly satisfying end to the series. 

Absolutely check this out if you haven't already. I feel like you don't really understand young adult dystopia until you read these books.
