I didn't expect to enjoy this book. Or, I did expect to enjoy it (I wouldn't have bought it if I didn't) but I expected something very different to what I ended up reading and didn't expect to enjoy it in the way that I did. I know that doesn't sound like it makes any sense, but it does to me.

I expected the usual paranormal romance of girl getting turned into a vampire and she ends up falling in love with a vampire but there is some human boy from her past life she loves too and there is this whole ridiculous love triangle thing going on. It would have been ridiculous but fun to read, but that is not what this book is. This is a serious look at the lengths one girl goes to stay alive in the worst possible circumstances and her journey to figure out the kind of person she will be now she is placed onto this new path of being a vampire. Allie has to reconcile the fact she had become a vampire, a creature she has spent her entire life hating, and figuring out how she is going to live the rest of eternity as a creature she despises, especially with the way it completely alters her life.

I don't want to write anything to spoil it, but I will say this book has far more depth than I could have ever expected. This is a thought provoking book and it is interesting. There is action to keep you interested as a reader, but this book is about people and the steps people are willing to take to survive. It shows the good and the bad side of humanity and I loved it.

It was my first book by Julie Kagawa and I am very excited to read more.

This one was surprisingly good! I had this one on my shelf for maybe 3 to 4 years and I was scared it would be too childish since YA translated to Dutch always feels so young to me, but it didn't bother me as much as i thought. I also expected it to be a little thropy (because vampires), but that wasn't the case at all. Julie Kagawa's writing style is so addictive and makes me fly trough her books. The next ones don't really fit my NEWT prompts, but I will definitely pick up the next one in september!

OH.MIO.DIO! Cosa non è questo libro, cosa non sono questi vampiri, cosa non sono Allie e Zeke!!!!!!
Okay, vediamo di riprenderci un attimo. Erano secoli che non leggevo un libro sui vampiri che riuscisse ad emozionarmi così tanto, sì più o meno da quando ho scoperto Vampire Academy :p.
Adoravo già lo stile della Kagawa dalla sua serie The iron fey, ma questo è diecimila volte meglio! Di solito i libri sui vampiri tutto sono tranne che dei post apocalittici, tendono ad essere degli historical fiction o dei fantasy per cui sono contentissima di aver trovato qualcosa di diverso!
In alcuni punti Allison e Kanin mi hanno ricordato tantissimo Lestat e Louis, tutto il fatto del vampiro che non vuole uccidere gli esseri umani, nutrirsi del sangue degli animali, mi ha ricordato il buon vecchio Louis ♥
Zeke è se possibile la cosa migliore che poteva esserci in questo romanzo! In un mondo in cui nessuno si fida più del prossimo, lui ci dimostra che la speranza è -letteralmente- l'ultima a morire e che possiamo trovare del buono in ogni cosa :).
Jackal è un personaggio curioso, anche in questo caso mi ha ricordato uno dei vampiri della Rice, sembrava Armand (quello del romanzo, non Banderas nel film!). Il poco che si è visto fa presagire qualcosa di losco da parte sua *-*

Quando finirà il mio autoimposto book buying ban, The eternity cure sarà il primo libro che comprerò!

I enjoyed this book and I already have The Eternity Cure sitting in front of me because I need to know what goes on.

The reason why I'm giving it 4.2 stars out of 5 is because sometimes I felt like I was watching The Walking Dead.
Like there were parts where I was screaming to myself VAMPIRES NOT ZOMBIES, GRETCHEN! every time a rabid came out.

Also, because some parts were just boring and dull but I have hope for the next one.

I loved how Julie made the vampires seem like old school vampires, no daylight rings, no shine, just old school vamps.
And DING DING DING THE HEROIN IS THE VAMPIRE hoorayyyyy
Listen, I try to stay away from comparing vampire novels to others but it's impossible.
