Another excellent novel by Brad Thor. Heavily influenced by the aftermath of 9/11, there is no doubt in the reader's mind how the author feels about radical Islam. 

A very interesting story line and I particularly enjoyed learning more about Thomas Jefferson and the Barbary war. The concept for the story was awesome, just sad that it isn't the truth.

To each his own as the saying goes, but I don't understand how this book got so many high ratings from so many people. Nor can I understand how this series made it to book #7 if the first 6 are as bad as this one. The story lacked emotional connection and punch for me as so many character feelings and reactions were told instead of shown. Many of the characters were cardboard cutouts and started to blend together. In addition, characters' actions were frequently ridiculously unrealistic. I expect some farfetched plotting in suspense novels, but this got to be silly at times. There were so many inplausible elements that I found myself reading with an increasingly critical eye and when a reader gets to that point, it's all downhill from there. I just read through Elmore Leonard's Ten Rules of Writing and one of the rules was "Never use the phrase 'All hell broke loose'" - I had to laugh when I came across that exact phrase at some point in the book. 'Nuff said.

And who is or was the titular Last Patriot? I have no idea..perhaps I skimmed over that part.
