The Quest is an expansive, informative tale of World Energy Supply and Sources. Daniel (Yergin) covers everything from Petroleum to petrol, gas, alter-energy, electricity and everything in between in immense detail. And he does that in a very layman language, with enough anecdotes and few repetitions. This is the first book I've read on the matter, and my interest did not dwindle through any of the chapters of this 800-page long saga. 

A fair bit of warning, though: some parts, some paragraphs are a bit dramatized. It did not feel like off-putting to me since my interest in the field is not academic in nature, but is merely driven by curiosity.

Daniel doesn't shy away from Political, Economic or Social causes and effects of changes in the Energy Industry. In fact, a lot of concepts and events like Petro States, the causes of Gulf War, the breaking up of Soviet Union, the 1970's Oil scare, I now understand much better. 

In terms of author's opinion, I feel he could have tried a bit harder to keep them out of the text, but I figure that any tale this long, and not entirely bland in nature can not possibly be entirely unbiased. Daniel believes in Climate Change (sad that we have to categorically state this fact about people even in 2017), he believes in Carbon Cuts being brought about by economic forces instead of law based restrictions, and his sentiments are comprehensively argued about in the book. 

All in all, I really recommend this book to anyone who has had an interest in this field but doesn't have a good starting point, or who likes knowing about random things.
