I have a love hate relationship with this book because on one hand, heck yeah!!! mystery and intrigue and the French Revolution!!!! on the other, I feel like Marguerite was honestly slightly stupid (although tbf I probably would've acted the same way)

This book is such an enjoyable read. The ending is aggressively antisemitic which puts a general damper on things but the narrator is witty and the characters are fun. The romance and yearning are also perfect.

This is one of my favorite stories of all time with one of the best climaxes EVER, and I loved revisiting it for the first time in YEARS. However, the writing style is honestly annoying. Yes, it has all the emotionalism we expect from Edwardian fiction, but can someone please buy the woman a thesaurus? 😆 It was extremely repetitive. all the same adjectives were used in every scene and the same phrases about how the characters felt. None of this will ever detract from the story for me, but the writing style just isn't the most polished.

I was pleasantly surprised by this story! I am normally tentative about classics but this had the perfect mix of tension, action, drama, and romance. 

The characters were engaging and cleverly crafted and each of their perspectives was a great addition to the story.
