Clearly more people are feeling empathy for Evelyn than Celia, but I don’t roll that way. I’m fully on Celia’s side. Sure yes, when you read it from Evelyn‘s perspective you want to empathize with her. But I can’t imagine being the lady you see your partner constantly fucking everyone alongside you. Also what in the fucking bi stereotype is this book. I’m sorry, I know that this took place at a diff time. But ah I can’t stand the cheating. Also yknow fuck Harry. For getting behind the wheel drunk and the driving himself and Monique’s dad into a tree. Fuck the cheating. Fuck Evelyn Hugo for letting Monique’s dad be the fall guy. Fuck everyone. I was angry for so much of this book, and it’s crazy. I think my anger stems from the liberty of being open about my sexuality I suppose. And the fact that my morals are against cheating. I’m also bi. I also can’t come out but I’d never stoop to cheating. And that’s why I’ll never understand Evelyn Hugo or the many men who all used each other for something. 

Edit: I forgot about the part where Celia fucking refuses to acknowledge that Evelyn is bisexual. The bi erasure is a very big thing even today. But they were so goddamn toxic.

When the focus was on Monique, the zest of the reading backed back a bit. But still i was so caught in, the complexity of Evelyn, all the relationship made me asking for more and more. I dont remember the last time i finished a book within two days...

I actually really enjoyed this book. It was a super quick read - mainly because I couldn’t put it down! I can see this being adapted for the big screen so easily - it’s an easy book to visualise. 

Although I predicted the ending, I loved the structure of the book and how it was divided per husband — even though they’re not really the focus. 

Surprisingly, I think it dealt with some big topics pretty well for the time it was set in. 

My biggest gripe with it was the lack of storyline about the daughter. I think it lost some believability because of it.

If you’re going on holiday, or need to switch off, I recommend a read!
