This is definitely accurately described. it's so much fun to read this after I've been at this exact place and in this exact train

Overall review: mind-blowing The start with Percy Jackson was the dream spot.. It's sad that in last we encountered the sad details but still having Percy and Annabeth in this series was great.. The way the relationship between magnus and Alex was growing that was really lovely.. Hearthstone getting back othala and overcoming his fears and sadness.. Mallory and halfborn.. Lovely couple.. The way we got some focus on Mallory as a child of frigg was overwhelming.. T.J. meeting Tyr .. no words.. Blitz and hearth .. no words Amir and Sam. No words The way Sam got control over her they way Alex helped.. Sam and Alex as a family.. the sweetest series I have ever read it was epic but cute also .. It's sad that it's last book.🥺 Wanted to see magnus and Alex a bit more.. And the Chase space ❤️❤️ And last but not least.. Where is the epic on jack? Hope that magnus will complete that task..😅

As expected from Uncle Rick, this is a great conclusion to his Norse mythology-inspired trilogy. I absolutely enjoyed the adventures of Magnus and his team towards defeating Loki. I loved every encounter with different enemies and how they managed to defeat every single one of them with different approach such as their wit, strength, kindness and skills. That was one of the best part of Uncle Rick's works. The adventures. Because that is where most of his humor comes out. But in this book, I most definitely loved the flyting part. I so damn praised Magnus' spectacular speeech! The most epic part for me, especially the sudden confession from him, holy cow! Though I really missed the Greek demigods, I am still glad I read this trilogy because I really enjoyed this a lot!

the whole series is hilarious. it's difficult to get bored when there is so much going on in every chapter. it's perfect for someone wanting to read some fast-paced action. on the other hand it can be overwhelming. while i came to really like the characters and the bond they share, their adventures seemed too complex to me. but despite that and despite how hard to grasp some parts of norse mythology were, it was entertaining to read. i had a fun time with this series.

, grandiosos y diversos y el humor de Rick fue como siempre genial no fue suficiente para salvar la trama, las misiones fueron aburridas, las cosas pasaban y se resolvían muy rápido.

           I’d like to give this one 4.5 stars. I really enjoyed the story, the characters, and the humor. However, I felt like it needed something more. Maybe it was the fact that the series is a trilogy instead of five books? Perhaps the interpretation of the gods in the series were just a little too casual? I’m not sure. However, I did enjoy it. Just not enough to want to give it a 5 star review.

Ultimately, I’m unsurprised by the romance arcs confirmed in the book. I was kind of hoping they wouldn’t open up that can of worms and just keep one series without romance - especially since they don’t age, it makes long term romantic relationships weird to write and read about.

I was very excited to see Percy finally meeting Magnus. It’s still super weird to me that they aren’t 12 anymore. I mean, it makes logical sense, but it caught me way off guard in a great way. It’s like hearing about how your youngest cousin is now starting college and you get hit with a huge wave of nostalgia and subsequently declare that that simply isn’t possible because they clearly still have to be in sixth grade. I worry for whatever had Annabeth shaken up at the end of the book. Annabeth doesn’t cry easily.

I guess my biggest complaint about the book was that the ending was kind of... well, anticlimactic. There wasn’t really any strategy or planning or intellect. It was all riding on a teenager getting drunk and telling the god Loki that friendship is the true super power. Ultimately, it was a little too peachy keen for me. Don’t get me wrong. I didn’t hate it, but I just didn’t love it. I felt like it didn’t really carry any weight. Percy Jackson, for instance, characters actually die. Side characters, sure, but protagonists all the same. This one? They ride off into the sunset with Loki in a walnut shell.

I would recommend this only to people who’ve read the first two books. And recently. I had forgotten bits from he previous books and had to go recap for myself a bit. Other that that, enjoy!

Rick Riordan will always have a place in my heart. I totally respect and admire him for the diverse characters he’s including in his writing these days, and using the fame/platform that he has been given to educate younger readers about other cultures and identities. I loved the Percy Jackson books when I was younger, and now kids will be able to love Magnus Chase in the same way. 

Key words, though: when I was younger. I’ve never reread that series, and I honestly think I never will, because it’s just not the same now that I’m older. I haven’t enjoyed the Magnus Chase books as much, not because they’re bad stories, per se, but because I really do think I’m just too old for them. 

I will say that I definitely enjoyed the book I listened to on audio more than the two that I read a physical or electronic copy of. The humor comes across much better when there’s someone actually delivering the jokes with timing and inflection.

Y'all I am going to fucking go nuts. Disclaimer: when I am excited about a book, I can be careless about tossing out the spoilers, so read with discretion. 

The Ship of the Dead, for the most part, was a wonderful and satisfying conclusion to the Magnus Chase series. I've just reread the series, and I really do love these books a lot; they're wonderful and packed with your usual Riordan-like adventure formula, and the characters are all solid and well-developed. While the plot follows more-or-less the same plotline that literally every other Riordan book has, it still remains relatively fresh. 

I think for this book what really stood out to me was the characters. Previous books focused on the empty cups gang: Hearthstone, Blitzen, and Samirah. This shifts the focus to Magnus's einherjar friends from floor 19: Thomas Jefferson Jr., Mallory Keen, Halfborn Gunderson, and Alex Fierro. The Empty Cups/Floor 19 gang really steal the show and are perhaps the most precious gang to ever appear in literature (rivalling Riordan's other precious gang, The Seven (+ Reyna and Nico). The Ship of the Dead tells their stories, signalling how close they've become since Magnus has arrived on the scene. And I loved the focus on them: hearing about all the stories of Floor 19 was great, because we know them, but we didn't really know them until this book. 

They all had their stories, which tied into each other, made them closer, and developed their characters even more. I think T.J. emerged as one of my favourite characters? He's so precious and happy, and he cares so, so so much. Mallory and Halfborn were also so good, and all of them had pasts that made my heart ache and feel warm and fuzzy. And of course, Alex Fierro continues to be a complete standout in pink and green. We got more insight into her character, and who she is, which I loved. (view spoiler)[I would have wanted to know more about the rest of Floor 19, because all their stories were so interesting. Halfborn and his invasion with Ivan the Boneless; Mallory Keen and what she experienced in the 1970s with the IRA; T.J. and his experience in the Civil War. There is so much I want to hear about their pasts, and I really wish we got more. I also want to know who Adrian is; Alex mentions that they committed suicide, and we got no follow-up on that. I know we can't get everything about all the Floor 19 crew, but dammit, I LOVE THEM. (hide spoiler)]

As for the romance: before I start on my favourite, let me talk about Percabeth - which, okay, listen, I read this a couple weeks ago and I shit you not I was in tears over how cute they are; Percabeth is LITERALLY EVERYTHING TO ME. (I love how Alex mentions how cute they are. I'm with you, Alex.) Sam and Amir. (view spoiler)[I loved them as well; they were adorable as well. (Alex also mentions he has been chaperoning the two, and that they are cute. I am with him on this one as well.) Amir said "I love you," and I may have squealed a bit. (hide spoiler)] And now, the Fierrochase. (view spoiler)[HOLY MOTHER OF ODIN, OR WHATEVER NORSE CURSES. THEY WERE SO FUCKING ADORABLE. Like, they spent so much time flirting? Magnus kept getting flustered around her and it was so cute I think my teeth fucking eroded away. And I may have screamed a bit when Alex kissed him because she didn't want to die without doing that? I am so happy about the Fierrochase. I love them. So much. That I'm sort of incoherent. And yay, Magnus is confirmed pansexual I love this song.  (hide spoiler)]

Some miscellaneous things I want to talk about:
(view spoiler)[- Hearth and the scene with his brother made me cry. I admit it. I actually cried. Hearth makes me cry. All these fucking characters make me cry. Like I said, precious. 
- Magnus is ... such a dork. Yeah, he has a dry sense of humor, but he's an absolute softie and gets beaten around by his friends in such a loving way. The dynamic with Magnus and the rest of his friends is so hilarious - yes, it's vicious, and they bicker a lot, but it's friendly, and they all realy love each other. 
- The non-binary, two-faced, ceramic giant named Pottery Barn that used they/them pronouns. That's all. 
- Actually, that's not all. It was a hoot. Pottery Barn stole the scene; they were hilarious, and they kicked ass, and their name was POTTERY BARN. It's so fucking Riordan - outlandish, funny, borderline embarrassing, and wholly endearing. 
- You know how I made fun of Magnus being an atheist last time? Apparently, being in a pagan afterlife made him even more cemented in his atheism ... which I found ... quite hilarious (but understandable). You are literally. In a pagan. Afterlife. How. Are. You. An. Atheist. 
- On the other hand, it's balanced out by Sam and how devout she is - like Magnus, I admire her so, so much, and wish I had that much conviction in my faith (though I consider myself to be a Christian, or at least I want to be). Also, is it bad that one of the few times I really felt conviction in my own faith in God to be spoken by a Muslim in a book about pagan gods? Is it? ("God is greater than whatever you are facing - your fears, your problems, your thirst, your hunger, your anger.")
- The characters ski. This isn't really of any importance to anyone, except for the fact that I am a skiier and skiing is one of the few things that make me feel alive, and I really love skiing. 
- The whole climax of the book made me hurt so much for Magnus, and then it made me almost cry again, because guys, MAGNUS LOVES HIS FRIENDS SO MUCH. These guys. Precious. 
- Rick Riordan has referenced memes before and if he referenced a Shrek meme I will personally challenge him to a fucking flyting
- If I do not see more of Magnus Chase in the future ... it's flyting time. 
- I have said this, but. They are all precious and I love this crew so, so much.

Some disappointments (I have disappointments in a Riordan book? GASP):
(view spoiler)[- Okay, the big one: I have to admit I feel cheated and a bit angry (not just har har I hate him so much for ruining my life, these fucking cliffhangers, but real angry) that Blitzstone was never confirmed. It honestly feels like queerbaiting to me, which is really disappointing because I trusted him. And yeah, they're practically married, neither of them have love interests and indeed seem to reject people who come onto them except for each other, but still? Blitz wore a green carnation in the first book which is a symbol of homosexuality? They're suuuper queer coded? And it just makes me confused and disappointed because, like, Rick normally has no qualms with queer characters? Hey Rick, WHY?
- Percy Jackson being the cliffhanger of the last book but literally only appearing in two chapters this book. Gonna be honest, it felt super, super cheap to me, like he was using Percy as bait to get readers to the book (which he did not need, because goddammit, some of us are fucking whipped for him - I have FIVE COPIES of The Lightning Thief, and by this time next year, I will probably have seven. I really don't mind Percy and Annabeth appearing in these books - I'm a sucker for more Percy, but I'm pissed that he ended with a cliffhanger for Percy and literally. Two. Chapters. I mean. He does this *cough Grover and Leo in ToA* but this was particularly bait-y. 
- That ending. What the fuck Rick. I don't know if it's a "disappointment" per se but I'm including it here because WHAT THE FUCK RICK? WHAT WAS THAT? WHY???????? Part of this is related to the above - this is Magnus's series, why did you have to drag a cliffhanger from ToA here? The other part of this is just I'M FUCKING ANGRY, THESE FUCKING CLIFFHANGERS, WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME, YOU ARE RUINING MY LIFE, I STILL HAVEN'T FORGIVEN HIM FOR MARK OF ATHENA ETC ETC. MOTHERFUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway. These are a series of disjointed, jumbled, frantic thoughts that do not claim to be a proper review. All in all, I think this was a wonderful series and I loved reading about Magnus Chase, his friends, and his adventures as an einherji. Rick Riordan is truly a myth master, and now it is time for me to go into hibernation until the next book.

I finally finished the whole series! Yayy! 🎉 Can't believe I was able to complete all three books within a month. I'm really grateful that I did because one of reading resolutions this year is to read the book series that's been sitting on my bookshelves for too long 😆. The last installment of this series is just as fun and exciting like the previous two books. Still loving the humor and how Rick Riordan ends this series on a good note. But I have to say that I still think the second book is the best one out of all the books in Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard series 😊.

One of the best things that happened in this book is Percy Jackson's cameo at the start—in which he's training Magnus to deal with the sea (his expertise, since he's the son of Poseidon). I'm really glad I get to see Percy and Annabeth once again even if it's just for a chapter. They're still the sweetest and cutest couple that Rick Riordan has created (at least for me personally). Aside from that, I'm also thrilled to see the einherjar from floor nineteen (Thomas Jefferson / TJ, Mallory Keen, and Halfborn Gunderson) plays a bigger role in this book. I am especially fond of Mallory Keen's side story, because this book will finally reveal who her mother is and the story behind Mallory's death that brought her to Valhalla. She also proved her intelligence in battle and successfully outsmart her enemies. Even though she appears to be tough on the outside, Mallory also has a soft spot that not everyone can see.
  "I figured something out. You can't hold onto hate forever. It won't do a thing to the person you hate, but it'll poison you, sure enough."
This book also introduced some gods/goddess whom we haven't met yet in the previous two books. The first one is Njord, the god of wind and seas, father of Frey and Freya, Magnus's grandfather. He's quite a funny guy because he's really proud of his beautiful feet 😂. Another one that we met for the first time is Frigg, Odin's wife, the goddess of foresight. She's able to foresee the near future and helps the crew of the Big Banana (Magnus's yellow ship that was gifted by Frey) by giving a hint and a tool to capture Loki when the time comes. I love Frigg because she exudes elegance but also strength at the same time. Sam expressed her admiration towards Frigg because she's actually the person who's in charge of Asgard without anybody noticing when Odin is out traveling through the Nine Worlds. I think so far Frigg is the only goddess that's not totally weird in this book series 😂.

Another event that was memorable from this book is their journey back to Alfheim, Hearth's hometown, to retrieve the Whetstone of Bolverk they needed to complete their quest. In the previous book, it is prophesied to Hearth will have to come back and face his nightmare once again. After possessing Andvari's Ring, Alderman (Hearth's father) has turned into a hideous dragon protecting his cave full of treasures. This part was quite bittersweet because Hearth has to his father turning into a monstrous beast, but at the same time he brought back the spirit of his deceased brother, Andiron, who said that he wanted to be as kind as Hearth is ❤️. Hearth is indeed a lovely being. Definitely one of my favorite characters in this book."Sometimes you lie to deceive people. Sometimes you lie because you need the lie to become the truth.""I think the hardest thing we can ever do is see someone for who they really are. Our parents. Our friends. Ourselves."I'm glad I finally finished this series! Overall, the plot is fun and exciting but it does get kind of predictable after a while. There's always something that saves them at the right moment, which feels a bit too coincidental. The ending to this book is pretty anti-climactic because I was expecting more from the final battle between Magnus and Loki. Although it was heartwarming, I crave for more epic battle scenes 😂. But I guess it's all because Magnus doesn't really have prominent fighting skill (since he's more of the healing type), that's why he had to use other ways to fight Loki. Nevertheless, I still really enjoyed this series from start to finish. It was entertaining and very enjoyable, especially because of Rick Riordan's humor throughout the story. After finishing all three books, I finally decided that my favorite character in this series has to be Jack, Sumarbrander, the Sword of Summer. His appearances always bring a smile to my face. Jack's dialogues are so adorable—especially when he's checking out other swords 😂. I'm definitely going to miss Jack's antics and his singing. I'm also going to miss the Norse mythology world in this book because I'm quite fond of it now. Looking forward to what Rick Riordan is going to write about next 😊!

вот так вот, троечка. не знаю, то ли я начиталась рика риордана, то ли он написался, но, кажется, к третьей книге ничего кроме шуточек и не осталось. не, ок - there are some world class puns, like "Loki's gonna loki" - но какбэ и... всьо? я рыдала в конце "героев олимпа" - потому что страшно полюбила всех этих персонажей. в этой серии я не привязалась ни к кому, и я считаю, это вина рика - особенно у второстепенных персонажей отвратительно непроработанный бэкграунд. смешно сказать - я только в третьей книге заметила, что один из персонажей черный и более того, освобожденный перед гражданской войной раб. 

ну и дополнительный минус - за неуместный, на пустом месте возникший роман. никакого теншена, никакой мотивации - just like that. и никакой рефлексии по этому поводу тоже.
