Firstly, the progress of the relationship felt off although the author clearly tried to flesh it out. On the other hand i feel like the side plot in the seventeenth chapter and following that was very useless and made me dislike the story even more?? the characters reactions were weird as hell and the chivalrous “sacrifice” was just giving in to misogyny and letting the bad guy inevitably win one way or another??

The only good thing about this book was the dance scene+ him counting the “i love you”s

JQ's books are either hit all the right spot for me or bland ridiculous over the top. with that said this one should be a one star read but i quite like hero and heroine so the extra 🌟 is for them.

THIS is a romance book. My goodness I have zero complaints and every compliment. 

Julia Quinn’s writing and storytelling is always phenomenal. Her literary universe is so expansive and inviting and she explores and expands it in ways that just make sense. 

This particular book in this quartet and within the Bridgerton-verse at large prompted me to write a longer review because it is an easy standout among Quinn’s other novels. (This is to say that this comment is obviously heavily affected by my personal taste)

I LOVE the character of Sarah. She’s written to be flawed and not the most beautiful girl in the room like so many heroines. Yet, these aspects of Sarah aren’t internalized by herself. She isn’t insecure or meek because of it. She’s just herself. She’s self assured yet often graciously humble, she’s beautiful in her own way, and she has selfish tendencies but her heart is big with compassion. Sarah isn’t afraid to admit to herself her emotions. Whether it’s full female rage (LOVED those scenes), ugly sobbing, or just being jealous of other people’s happiness- Sarah allows herself the grace to feel and exist. 

In alot of ways I see myself in Sarah, so I can’t help but favor her. 

Any man who can do large multiplication tables in his head, force his dad sign a contract that ensures that he’ll [unalive] himself, and use dark humor and quick wit in all conversations has my whole heart. My favorite aspect of Hugh is his use of logic. He demands logic in every situation and I truly get that. 

Furthermore, these two just make sense. I love that they fall in love through nice and long conversations. The relationship feels natural and right. 

I can talk about this book all day!!! Easily the best out of the Smythe-Smith quartet (and dare I say-  better than almost half the Bridgerton books)

I legit read this purely because I was feeling the Historical Romance today and this book delivered it. I think it was funny at times and cute. There were cheesy and unrealistic moments of course I think it's hard to avoid in most romance novels, but I still loved it!
