Ah.. I liked it. It was ok actually but the fact that it made me write down some stuff and check some stories it's saying and also inspire me to draw some of them and whatnot, well, it deserves one more star for that. 

Also, made me wanna read some other books that have stories that are mentioned in this one. So that's a win! 

Other than that it's just stories that may or may not have had zombie attacks and whatnot. 

I wouldn't rec it as a standalone, cuz you really need to first read the World War Z and then read the Zombie Survival Guide. But yeah! This was much nicer than the guide though, cuz it's not "you need to get these things, or protect yourself from this and that and shit. But it's got nice little stories. Yay you!

This book was actually surprisingly good. I have read before but it was a few years ago when the zombie craze really started so I don't remember a lot of what was in it so I thought a refresher was in store. There is no tricks involved with this book. It is literally a complete guide to surviving the zombie apocalypse. 

I would like to note something. Yes, this says a zombie survival guide but I think it would be used for other things like natural disasters or breakdowns of societies. In fact, I read somewhere that the CDC (Center for Disease Control) recommends this book because it has so much useful information. So if the CDC recommends a book that has the word "zombie" in it, it's probably a good book to pick up. 

It has information about topics like different weapon types and why they are useful. It mentions different landscapes with benefits and drawbacks, how to prepare your safe house, how to properly scavenge and other things like that. It tells you what you all need in your kit should zombies ever come. I mean a lot of this stuff can be used when surviving a natural disaster. I personally have never lived through one but I live in tornado alley and I can see why this book would be handy. If a zombie apocalypse or even a natural disaster happens, I will be sure to grab this book. 

If I could mention any drawback, it's that it's a bit slow. But that really isn't a complaint considering it's an information manual and not a novel. I imagine that Max Brooks' other book,  World War Z, would read more like a novel. Regardless, I think everyone should have this book in their library and have it ready to take with them if something does happen.

Yeaaah, nah. I really enjoy World War Z's book, but this book lost me at saying zombies have a sixth sense because humans only use 5% of their brains. I'm sure this book has some great survival tactics in it, but I need the science of it to be rooted firmly in logic and facts. If those facts are off, why bother? I DNFed this only a few pages in due to the 5% thing and conflicting passages about what drives the zombies.

The thing is, I've thought a lot about zombies and about how they work. This author obviously has too. However, in order for a brain to force a body to function in any desired way, it needs functioning portions. I get the rot and stuff, I do, but what drives a zombie in it's insatiable desire to eat if it doesn't feel hunger? Sorry, you lost me there Max Brooks. I'm sure this book will be more interesting if you're drafting a survival plans, but I've read better versions of this kind of book and I can honestly promise there are better zombie apocalypse planning guides out in the world.
