What a terrifying read. Given that this book was taking form in 2020, I almost feel like the current timeline has sped up compared to the authors predictions. I'm left with a cold feeling after reading a very life like outcome to humanity.

This story POV jumps in one of the most fluid ways I've come across. I loved the lack of chapter changing every time we change POV, it made the events flow smoother. Each character has depth and problems that feel intense and life like.

The quest to figure out the culprit kept me guessing, each time I thought I had it worked out another twist, or piece of information would drop making me question the motives of everyone in the room.

With the way it ended it left it open for a sequel, but also left room for the reader to make their own judgement on how the next years would play out. Would the winner of the election actually be the one to save humanity or did earth make their biggest mistake by voting them in?

I'm uncomfortable with the amount of questions that weren't answered with the conclusion, but honestly I think that's the point. There are so many moving parts in politics and the climate crisis. Is any decision made the right one? Did each of these characters choose the right side? What is their fate?

You'll love this book if you enjoy being terrified by current events, and realistic fiction.

The two remaining candidates are a former US president and an AI candidate created by a genius engineer, Martha. Martha is killed unexpectedly, and her death is investigated by Marcus Tully, a journalist who lost his wife ten years prior. Tully believes that the deaths of Martha and his wife are connected and will stop at nothing to get to the bottom of it. 

The premise is intriguing and kept me engaged. The commentary on AI, politics, humanity, and social issues is relevant. The mystery is engaging. While some of this is predictable, the way it all unfolds is well-executed. 

The only thing I struggled with was the pacing. It had a very strong start but then lagged in the middle before picking up towards to the end — in a way that almost felt rushed. I think the author tried to fit a lot into this book, which contributed to the pacing issue. It may have done it more justice to pick a lane.
