4.5 Stars. Janie Chang's debut novel is beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. Leiyin is a character stuck in between a country that is trying to keep it's traditions and embrace modernity all at the same time. This book is not meant to be read in a rush. At times Leiyin is an incredibly frustrating character, but to watch her grow was a treat. Her three souls were all interesting in their own right. 

I can't wait to read more of Chang's book. Please write a book about Taiwan!! There so few of them out there!
