Maas</a> Throne of Glass was selected for me to read by Alexa of Alexa Loves Books. I hadn’t realized how much I missed a good historical fantasy story until I started reading Throne of Glass. Alexa, thank you SO much for making this your pick! Throne of Glass had so many elements I love in stories like these. It had intrigue, and romance, and a girl who can kick lots of butt! I felt this story was a combination of other great books with strong heroines. Poison Study, Graceling, The Hunger Games…Throne of Glass can join those ranks. The world-building was also very interesting, but I am looking forward to learning more about the magic side of things, hopefully in the next book. I thought Celaena was an interesting character. She was charming and at times a little childish, but I never got annoyed with her, which was good. I found her very endearing and felt like I would indulge her, like a little sister. She was very smart and skilled at being kick-ass in general. I think I am definitely going to be reading the prequel novellas though, to get more familiarized with her backstory as this books jumps in when she’s already spent a year in “prison.” This book’s love interests (yes, plural!) were a bit confusing to me for a while. I couldn’t really tell where things were going with either of them. But by the end I was totally on board with one certain one. Team Chaol, where you at?! :D On the one hand, Celaena is really physically attracted to Prince Dorian, but he’s kind of like the forbidden fruit, with her being an assassin and possible the King’s Champion next. While she’s really infatuated with him, Dorian believes himself completely in love with her. And then we have Chaol, the Captain of the Guard. There isn’t really anything romantic between them for a while, but I think this pairing has the substance to last if it does happen. There is respect there, and friendship, and definitely some longing. I look forward to see how their relationship blossoms (hopefully) in the next book. Throne of Glass was an exciting story with mystery, magic, and romance. It’s also the beginning to what I imagine is going to be an even more intense sequel, and I, for one, can’t wait to read it. {2014} Audiobook reread complete! Still a great story, though narrator tended to get shouty at times. Like, chill out, dude. Shouting does not equal vehemence.

I was expecting so much from all the hype but I struggled a lot with finishing it. I didn’t feel very connected to the characters and was sooooo confused with ever related to magic and those mystery runes

Will I read the next book? Yes. Am I ashamed by it? Also yes. I wish I could rate this a 2.75. This book, while the world building is great and the storyline keeps you entertained… ugh I just cannot stand the way the main character is written. She’s a frail 18 year old but can physically overthrow 300 pound men? Why not write with more creativity. She’s meant to be a badass who doesn’t take any shit but then pouts at a handsome man :/ did I also blush and squeal………… 😛 superficial read, if you want something with depth or something more than lukewarm tap water literature, this is not a book for you. Nonetheless I shall keep reading, hoping for more. anyway, hopefully we see a good character redemption for this woman, please, I’m begging.

I’m deeply sorry to everyone but I didn’t like the characters (except Nehemia and the dog) or the writing style. I did like the final battle/climax but there’s no way she would’ve survived that long

The world building is lovely. Celaena can be a bit grating at times, but she’s 18 so that’s to be expected. As is typical of Sarah J Maas books, I occasionally find myself getting frustrated and wanting to put it down. Overall, I deeply enjoy the characters and world. The writing style just is not my favorite.

I've read far far far better fantasy books on wattpad. I could never read this actually, I just listened to the FRENCH audiobook. I don’t have enough respect for this book in order to make the effort of reading it (or listening to it) in English. But i'll probably read the second book, because I need to direct my hate somewhere, and these are the perfect books to hate.
