on the one hand, what i appreciate of this book is the technique used for the narration. at least it was new and interesting, as the narrator (who apparently is a part of the main character at the same time as an independent entity) witnesses the life story of man backwards, from the moment he dies to the moment he is born. even the conversations' sentences were written backwards, i'll admit i have never read a book like this one in that sense.

and on the other hand, i think because of this choice (plus the author's stylistic features and because this is postmodernism and it includes every single trait of the movement i dislike) the book completely fails at delivering the emotion, care and depth that such heavy topics deserve (the holocaust, concentration camps and world war II), in my opinion. i think this work tried to be deep in a very aseptic and absurd way. it was clumsy, detached and every single thought related to women (which are quite recurrent, i have to say) were... questionable. you can tell this was written by a man. i'll say no more.

I found myself very close to humanity with this book. I liked that it was short, and I liked the way it was written. The motifs, however, didn't pique my interest. I wish it was a longer book, but then again, I wish all books were longer... unless they're long.
