Maybe I was just tired of Tom Robbin's writing pattern (see my review of Still Life with Woodpecker) but this book was so boring and predictable. Couldn't finish it, wish I hadn't started it.

Having read later Robbins' novels first, this book's story felt less fully formed. That being said, his writing is still brilliant and lyrical. I enjoyed the yarn spun by the narrator and the rambling monologues of the characters. Early Tom Robbins still beats many seasoned authors.
