The tragedy is one of the last two tragedies written by Shakespeare, along with Antony and Cleopatra.Coriolanus is the name given to a Roman general after his military success against various uprisings challenging the government of Rome. Following this success, Coriolanus becomes active in politics and seeks political leadership. His temperament is unsuited for popular leadership and he is quickly deposed, whereupon he aligns himself to set matters straight according to his own will. The alliances he forges along the way result in his ultimate downfall."

Coriolanus is one of the lesser known plays but in my opinion it is very underrated. It's dark, it's raw and so, so different to his other works. I really enjoyed the way the play itself, through its' tone, reflects the nature of the man Coriolanus, or Caius Marcius, and his tragedy. He is torn between two versions of himself, always pushed further by his ambitious mother and at the same time a man who simply wants to fulfill his duty and be left alone. The intimate scenes between Coriolanus and his enemy are one of a kind.
