*A serviceable mystery that diverts a bit from the original tone of the series*


I think I just wasn't in the right mood for this book. There wasn't anything wrong with Listening Woman; I just had a hard time getting into it. The story took a while to gain momentum. It felt like Hillerman was trying to go in a different direction and experimenting a bit. And although there were many elements of Navajo culture in the story, this story didn’t feel as culturally immersive as other installments. The ending was exciting though, and I do still enjoy the series.
