I'm having trouble rating this 2 stars.. it was meh, I read it just fine, I wanted to like it.. but.

The artwork is great!

The story on the other hand... well, it was a good idea in the first couple of pages but, you could see where this was going fast, and even with the twists in the end and whatnot, it doesn't really matter, because it's an one-shot and because you simply don't care. You don't have enough time to care. 

The L character in this book is pointless and pretty much made up for no reason. Exists just to act and look like the L we liked, and just talks and states the obvious. Not that it would matter if L was awesome or had any impact to this story, which he doesn't. But even then it would be pointless and for me it further ruins the name and the character we know from the Death Note. Especially since the new L is also weird and acts all L-like too, like, really? Detectives are talking to you and you're lying down on the damn floor in a warehouse or something explaining to us what's going on like a damn newspaper... Bad.

EDIT: I didn't even realize that the L in this one is Near.. ugh.. he just never went for a haircut (great idea *nope*) and I wasn't paying much attention to him seeing Ryuk and whatnot. 

The end was meh, the protagonist, Minoru, was forgettable that just had this good idea of what to do with the Death Note and that's it. And even that idea was mediocre at best. No development whatsoever so not much else to say.

Anyway, would not recommend to anyone. 

Death Note was what it was and it was perfect. 

This one was unnecessary!

For any fan of the Death Note series, this one-shot is a wonderful bonus. I really enjoyed the story and the way Minoru planned to use it. The art, too, was once again amazing and I’m definitely planning on re-reading it one day!
