Guys! This book was SUPER CUTE! If you've ever enjoyed a movie in The Land Before Time series, this is essentially like that in nature for the characters, but with a Game of Thrones level plotline and all the characters are dragons with really different cultures! I think I'll give this one a solid 4 stars.

I don't really have any huge complaints about this book, which is rare even for books I love and adore. The characters were different enough that it was easy to tell them apart and the main group seems like a pretty diverse and fun book. I appreciate that the dragonet group is full of baby dragons that don't like up to mystical expectations - like being disabled by normal standards or not being exactly what the prophecy called for but doing their best anyway. I thought that was great. The book is also great about not making the reader feel stupid by explaining even simple concepts to them repeatedly, which is great. Especially in literature meant for kids, it always grinds my gears when books assume the kids are stupid. This book definitely didn't and the characters, even being dragons, were realistic in their responses to what had been happening in their lives. I found the book very enjoyable.

My only complaint is that all of the adult dragons are terrible people and have no redeeming qualities. The dragons who raised these dragonets stole them from their cultures and families and then abused them when they didn't fit their picture perfect molds. Even the adult dragons outside the Talons of Peace were terrible people as far as we could tell. Queen Scarlet was a villain, so she was atrocious. None of the options for Queen of the firewings seemed like nice people in any way, shape, or form. None of the adult characters even batted an eyelash (so to speak) at the concept of murdering a child. Not one. I'm pretty sure just about every adult character except Clay's mother was pretty okay with the idea of murdering at least one of the dragonets.

That being said, I really did enjoy this book and I would definitely recommend it to others. I feel like this was a book aimed at middle schoolers and late elementary schoolers, but I feel like people of any age could enjoy this.

           Ok, so finally time to do that review!
So I read these books a years back and I LOVED them! My cousin found the first book aka this one and she shared them with me! We are both BIG readers, and I was really able to bond with her over the characters and events! 
This book is all about Clay, who is a Mudwing. He and his friends live under a mountain and finally escape when one of the adults is about to kill the friend, Glory! They all travel together and the group decides to go and find their parents. Since this book is about Clay, they naturally go and find his parents first! This book is a wonderful introduction to the amazing world and the life of the Mudwings! 
I would recommend to anybody who loves dragons! This may be for younger people, but it brings back so many memories!

#fantasy - enjoyable fantasy featuring dragons attempting to fulfil their destiny and save a warring world. My students really enjoy this series - it has adventure, drama, interpersonal relationships, parent / child angst the works. Some good references to team work, creating teams with diverse strengths, sticking together etc.

I found this to be super strong start to a fantsay series. I think this book had a solid start. I liked this book had both elements of both found family and also fantsay. I really loved the magic system that was developed around dragons. I wish the start of the book would have been a bit better at making the five dragons more clearer about who was who. But I loved how this for short book really had complete story and changed the game some much in only 300 pages. I thought some of the plot points happened super fast but it was fun engaging read. I really loved clay as main character and exited to read more soon!
