The difference between the ugly side of love and the beautiful side of love is that the beautiful side is much lighter. It makes you feel like you’re floating. It lifts you up. Carries you. The beautiful parts of love hold you above the rest of the world. They hold you so high above all the bad stuff, and you just look down on everything else and think, Wow. I’m so glad I’m up here. Sometimes the beautiful parts of love move back to Phoenix. The ugly parts of love are too heavy to move back to Phoenix. The ugly parts of love can’t lift you up. They bring you D O W N. They hold you under. Drown you. You look up and think, I wish I was up there. But you’re not. Ugly love becomes you. Consumes you. Makes you hate it all. Makes you realize that all the beautiful parts aren’t even worth it. Without the beautiful, you’ll never risk feeling this. You’ll never risk feeling the ugly. So you give it up. You give it all up. You never want love again, no matter what kind it is, because no type of love will ever be worth living through the ugly love again.

Whoever coined the phrase, I love you to death obviously never experienced the kind of love Tate and I share. If that were the case, the phrase would be I love you to life. Because that’s exactly what Tate did. She loved me back to life.

A really gripping read with a heartbreaking story line - the only thing I found hard to get past was the time line. The characters were 17 when they had/lost their son and separated. I didn't feel like 6 years was such a long time - that Rachel had moved on gotten married and had another baby. They still would have only been 23/24. I felt like if it had been 10/13 years and they were now into their 30s I would have believed more that he was stuck in grief and being held back and that Rachel had time to process and grieve and move forward. This timeline was hard for me to get past, but the story itself was really good.

it’s always easy and quick to realize you’re reading Colleen Hoover, her good flow is always there. However, Ugly Love is a bit repetitive, and the boom in the final chapters is sad, of course, but nothing compared to Verity or It ends with us, in my opinion. Still a good reading.

Okay but Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover?? Literally finished it in a day. Absolutely wrecked me in the best way possible. The spice?? Top tier. Like actually insane — she wrote it so well that I had to put the book down just to scream into a pillow. But beyond that, the writing literally reached into my chest, ripped my heart out, stomped on it, and then somehow made me fall even more in love with the story. It’s raw, it’s heartbreaking, it’s beautiful, and I SOBBED. Like ugly crying, fitting for the title. I’m obsessed. Definitely one of those books that makes you feel every single emotion at full volume. 10/10 recommend if you want your heart shattered and your soul set on fire.

I’m not crying, you’re crying!!!! Being able to read Miles’s past and fully understand his reasoning for the wall he puts up was enlightening!! This is such an emotional read that I’m having a hard time putting it into words!! But it was soooo freaking good!! Definitely recommend!!

Written with a present day POV from the FMC and a past POV from the MMC with a few present day from him at the end. This felt weird in the beginning bouncing back and forth but it really helped me understand Tate and Miles so much better. Keep in mind when reading the Miles chapters that he is a teenager in them and it will make more sense. 

Miles holds so much pain in his heart from his first relationship and Tate can see this from day one and falls for him despite it. She is his anchor and he definitely needed her. I thought for certain the strictly sex only deal was going to be a hard to sell love story for me but somehow it all worked. 

The Rachel chapter did me in. 💔💔💔 I think I needed to see her happy just as much as Miles did. 

Love really is ugly but it has its beauty too. It’s pain and happiness felt with equal parts. Doesn’t make it easy but it is worth it. I loved this book!

           This was such an amazing book and it was so fun to read and really good as a long read. Personally I love how it’s written in multiple perspectives and it gradually tells the backstory of Miles and it adds up so you have to carry on reading to understand the rest of the book.

wtf. i knew what I was getting myself into when I picked this up but…. wow. this was just so bad. basically soft porn every 3 pages and a fucked up story line (the last being intended- i know its not supposed to be a „feel good“ book). still- the writing style; the out of the blue unhinged things they say; some veeery problematic scenes. 

at least the ending kind of made up for it, maybe? still a no thank you from me

(also i predicted the „plot twist“ very early on, only from tates commentary and the book cover so… patting myself on the back? hm)
