I've recently been very interested in reading books (fiction and non-fiction) about Africa and Asia and the problems facing developing countries today. This book, though the stories are fictional, talks about the real problems that Africans face and that the world should know about.
I definitely enjoyed reading this, though the topics are hard to read about. My favorite story is the second one, Fattening for Gabon. The last story, My Parents' Bedroom, broke my heart. For some reason, I've always taken a deep interest in the Rwandan genocide, so this story really connected with me.
All in all, I definitely think people should read this. It's a wake up call that is much needed for Westerners, but also for Africans. The wars and conflicts and genocides that are happening in that continent is serious cause for concern not only for developed countries, but for the countries where these atrocities are happening as well.
