I enjoyed reading this mystery set in Oklahoma, but I did not like the partnership drama between the main  character and her wife.   I liked the characters and the clues to the disappearance.  I enjoyed learning about the culture and life in Oklahoma, and learned a lot I didn't know about the activities of the Bureau of Indian Affairs and their treatment of people.  It started off slowly, but picked up the pace and the intrigue deeper into the story.

The entire time I was reading, I kept thinking the backstory was familiar.  After the end of the narrative, the author states that the backstory was indeed based on the disappearance of Ashley Freeman and Lauria Bible, a horrific case that remains only partially solved.  This was a good book with interesting characters and an unusual setting.
