This volume is intended to give colleagues in the field of speech technology an overall idea of the work involved in the research program Analysis and Synthesis of Speech (ASSP). THis five-year program, 1985-1990, was conducted by six speech research groups in the Netherlands. THe researchers' contributions to this volume offer systematic insight into the procedures and techniques employed in the development of a laboratory system for high-quality text-to-speech conversion.
