This was an excellent, informative, and moving series of essays by those on the front lines of community activism. It’s such an important collection of personal experiences with police, statistical analysis of the police and prison systems in the US, and evidence based recommendations for reform. I’ve found myself, particularly lately, repeatedly having very frustrating and emotional discussions with family members who do not fully understand (or try to) the experiences of those in Black and Brown, and other marginalized, communities. Many of my communication tactics in these conversations have been emotionally, passionately charged, but though I felt like I’ve actively been listening more to marginalized communities in an attempt to practice antiracism, my knowledge is certainly limited. I so want to share this book with everyone in my own community (predominantly white) and my own circles and family while having these conversations. 

All this to say — this is a fantastic educational resource and a powerful, emotional work.
