           2.5 I had a hard time following this book but I think it was just because it is written in an old fashion way. I honestly didn't know that "the boys" father died until they were burying him. The book really shouldng have been titled Sounder because the book was hardly about "the old coon dog". I think this book really is well written but maybe it should be rewritten so that modern day people can actually understand the concept and plot of this book
