The central conclusion is that there is a need for 'counter-images' of an alternative society, one that protects and respects nature. The ecological utopias represent a most pertinent form of social critique; they can truly function as a rich source of ideals for a different arrangement of contemporary society. In this post modern era as much as in any other, we cannot dispense with the inspiration and innovative power of the utopian ecological imagination.
