Mikhail Lermontov

In 1973 Progress Publishers commenced publication of the Russian Classics Series. This series will offer the reader English translations of novels by such famous writers as Turgenev, Herzen, Goncharov, Dostoyevsky, Pisemsky, and Lev Tolstoy, the poetry of Puskin and Lermontov, the biting satire of Gogol and Saltykov-Shchedrin, and the brilliant short stories of Chekhov, Leskov and Korolenko. It will also include anthologies of Russian poetry from the eighteenth to the twentieth century and collections of stories and plays by other great poets and writers of the nineteenth century. The books will contain illustrations by famous artists of the past and present. Each volume will be provided with an introductory article.
