Brings together recent historical research on cultural production and reception during WWII, focusing on war-specific agencies such as the Council for the Encouragement of Music and the Arts, and on major national institutions including the BBC and the British film industry. Examines how cultural provision was viewed by workers and the labor movement, and looks at the role of established writers and composers. Hayes is lecturer in modern and contemporary history and Hill is reader in historical and cultural studies, both at Nottingham Trent University. Distributed by ISBS.
