The first set of essays is concerned with the rule-following, response-dependent character of thought; the second, with the many factors to which choice is rationally responsive--and by reference to which choice can be explained--consistently being under the control of such reason-giving thought; and the third, with the implications of this multiple sensitivity for how best to regulate human institutions with a view to securing a desirable normative order.
