Cultural Studies. Latino/Latina Studies. Despite the growth of the Latino community in the United States, Latinos have entered the twenty-first century with lower levels of media representation than when protests first raised the the issue in the 1960s. Latinos remain the most underrepresented of all minority groups in film and television. This volume addresses this dire situation by collecting information from the landmark 1999 conference held by the National Association of Latino Independent Producers to renew the fight for media access. Sponsored by concerned Latino groups, the conference was the first national gathering on Latino independent media since the 1970s.
